A 101-year-old man presumed to be the oldest defendant in Britain was found guilty this Friday of several counts of sexually abuse against children.
Ralph Clarke, a former lorry driver, was found guilty of 21 counts of sex abuse against two girls and one boy between 1974 and 1983. According to prosecutors the elderly man used “fear and intimidation” as a way to have control over his victims.
Prosecutor Claire Nicholls stated that Clarke “took full advantage of” the childrens age and circumstances “in oder to carry out” his heinous sexual abuse against childrens.
Since years had gone by the sexual predator believed he had got away with his offences. But because of the victims courageous effort ” to bring him to justice” prosecutors were able to find him guilty this past Friday.
At one point during the trial Clarke conceded to nine charges concerning a boy and said it was “something that happened ” a long time ago. A verdict was reached in just two days by jurors.
Judge Richard Bond stated he was considering a sentence “in double figures”. He also said that if Clarke was not put away in prison, “the public would be horrified .”
Ralph Clarke attorney Darron Whitehead stated the judge should take into consideration his clients age and his health when being sentenced.
